Responsibility

What am I inviting you to take responsibility for?
1. Your faucet of guilt and regret. They’ve been leaking into every corner of your life for far too long. It's time to turn off the tap—completely.
2. Your boundaries. The boundaries you need to set with your own tyrannical mind. It’s time to stop the constant fearmongering and relentless self-judgment, whatever it takes.
3. Your fear of believing in goodness.Of trusting the extraordinary sweetness you were born with. It's astonishing how afraid we can be of believing in human kindness, especially our own. The fear can be utterly paralyzing.
4. The cynicism that surfaces in the very moments when what you truly long for is tenderness and closeness.
5. The oldest lie in the world: that joy depends on circumstances. It doesn't. Not even close. Realizing how much joy you could have experienced, but convinced yourself was impossible, is heartbreaking.
6. The belief that you're not enough. It's such nonsense that it's almost embarrassing to write it down. You don't get another life. You only get yourself. And that’s who you must learn to love—without conditions, qualifications, or exceptions.
This kind of responsibility saves lives.
It can snatch the cup away just before you take a sip of your own poison.
Yes, that sounds dramatic.
Because it is.
Even people who are deeply unhappy for completely legitimate reasons, people carrying truly painful burdens, must still take responsibility for this.
Because in the end, even if your life story fully explains why your suffering feels so overwhelming, no one can rescue you unless you’re willing to take this deeper responsibility for yourself.
Even when your shoulders are exhausted, they must still carry it.
Every word I've written here has first been tested in my own life.
That's why I can say these things without softening them.
And because I've watched them transform the lives of so many others over the years, I'm delighted to officially announce the opening of my School of Responsibility.
And there's a place for you there.
One thing is certain:
You will be the one to sign your certificate.
Because deep down, you already know what is feels like to put your signature on the truth.
